Estimated to have formed in the Carboniferous period (358-298 million years ago), Herkimer Diamonds are double terminated (naturally faceted at both ends) Quartz crystals that are found within the exposed outcrops of Dolomite in and around Herkimer County, New York and the Mohawk River Valley.
