Moon Rock (Lunar Meteorite)

A genuine Lunar Troctolite meteorite, that was found in Northwest Africa, 2014 (NWA 003)

Troctolite rocks like that of NWA 003 are coarse-grained intrusive igneous rocks composed of almost entirely olivine and feldspar.

Lunar meteorites are launched from the moon by impacts, leaving craters. Their origin has been established by comparing the mineralogy, the chemical composition, and the isotopic composition between meteorites and samples from the Moon collected by Apollo missions.

Rocks collected by the Apollo missions are owned by the US government. All specimens collected by the US and Japanese Antarctic programmes are, by treaty, held by those governments for research and education purposes only. Lunar meteorites collected in Africa and Oman are the only ones that are available for private ownership.
