Otodus Angustidens Tooth
Otodus Angustidens tooth from Florida.
A beautiful specimen!
They lived during the Late Eocene and Miocene periods about 34 – 21 million years ago with the largest believed to have been 36 – 39ft long.
It is a close relative to Megalodon but, unlike Megalodon teeth, it is characterised but small, fully serrated side cusps which were used to help this predator slice through prey.
Because sharks are made from cartilage, not bone, skeletal remains are rare, although teeth have been found worldwide.
